No Charges For LAPD Officer Salvador Sanchez Who Shot Unarmed Man & Parents At Corona Costco

CORONA, CA. (THECOUNT) — A criminal Grand Jury decided Tuesday that no criminal charges should be filed against an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer who fatally shot an unarmed man and wounded the man’s parents inside a Costco in Corona, District Attorney Mike Hestrin announced Wednesday, FOXLA is reporting.

Salvador Sanchez has been identified by Los Angeles police Wednesday released as the off-duty LAPD officer who opened fire inside a Corona Costco Wholesale.

LAPD confirmed Sanchez as the officer involved in the deadly June 14 shooting that happened inside the store, located at, Costco Wholesale 480 N McKinley St, in Corona, CA.

Sanchez is part of the LAPD’s Southwest Division and is currently on administrative duties, the department said.

Attorney David Winslow said his client, the officer, was struck from behind without a word being spoken as he fed his son samples of teriyaki chicken in the store, reports ABC7.

“There was no discussion, there was no argument, there was no warning at all,” Winslow said. “He was suddenly struck, knocked unconscious. When he opened his eyes moments later, he was on the ground, on the concrete. With his son also on the concrete. His son was screaming. That’s when he had no choice but to use deadly force.”

The off-duty officer shot and killed Kenneth French, 32, of Riverside, and critically wounded French’s parents. French’s mother remains hospitalized in critical condition. His father is stable.

An attorney for the French family argued that a civilian involved in such an incident would have been arrested.
