NE Man Zane Fecht ID’d As Grain Handler Involved In Fatal Bin Elevator Work-Place Accident

FREMONT, NE. (THECOUNT) — Zane Fecht, of Bellevue, Nebraska, has been identified as the body recovered Sunday from a grain elevator north of Fremont, according to reports.

Fecht, 32, of Bellevue, died when he was trying to break up the grain and fell through, Dodge County deputies said.

According to officials, employees with Interstate Commodities Inc. called for help around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, saying Fecht gone into the grain elevator and did not come out.

The grain and feed ingredients company is near Highway 77 and County Road T in Fremont.

Rope teams from the fire department and Central Valley Ag worked from the bottom and top of the elevator. Fremont Fire Capt. Pat Tawney said rescuers push for adding more features to the grain bins for when situations like this happen. “We talked tonight about having bigger holes on the side of the bins to get in and out of, but they don’t want that because they don’t want us in there, so it’s a bad situation,” Tawney said. Tawney said some rescuers actually finished grain bin training a few weeks ago and they had more training scheduled for Sunday, reports KETV.

Officials say they don’t think Fecht was wearing safety equipment but investigators are still looking into that claim.

According to social media, Fecht worked in the past at Scale Sales & Service, C-TEC and Maniac builders. He attended Gothenburg High School and was originally from Gothenburg, Nebraska, according to Facebook.
