TAZEWELL, TN. (THECOUNT) — Katelyn Cunliffe has been identified as the Claiborne County High School student fatally struck by a van on Friday in Tazewell, according to reports.
Cunliffe, 16, was on-foot in the area of Catdaddy’s Market at 6:32 a.m. Friday morning when she was struck by a vehicle.
The 16-year-old pedestrian was killed after being struck by a van on State Hwy. 33 in front of the market. She lived nearby, according to WATE.
“We can not begin to put into words the heaviness surrounding our community today,” Tazewell Police Chief Jeremy Myers said. “We grieve for the family of the victim and the other party involved in the crash.”
Myers has requested the Tennessee Highway Patrol conduct an investigation.
It is unclear if anyone was cited at the scene.
