CRANSTON, RI. (THECOUNT) — Johnston, Rhode Island firefighter, Richard Gemma, has been identified as the victim in a fatal motorcycle crash in Cranston, RI on Wednesday.
Gemma, 45, was operating a motorcycle near Felicia Drive and Belgium Avenue on Wednesday evening when he crashed while attempting to perform a left-hand turn.
According to Cranston police, Gemma started to turn, his wheel stuck in the curb on the side of the road, pulling his motorcycle sharply to the right. Although he tried to regain control by braking,
Gemma was ejected from the bike and struck his head in the fall. The motorcycle skidded across the road, landing alongside the victim.
He suffered a traumatic head injury and was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital, reports Patch.
Gemma was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.
The investigation into Gemma’s death is still ongoing.
