Serena Williams Hubby Dons ‘D.A.R.E. T-Shirt’ To US Open In Apparent Effort To Troll Maria Sharapova

FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY. (THECOUNT) — Serena Williams‘ husband Alexis Ohanian wore a D.A.R.E. t-shirt while attending a match at the U.S. Open between his wife and Maria Sharapova. Sharapova received a two year suspension from tennis in 2016 after she was accused of dosing with performance enhancing drugs.

The D.A.R.E. program was created by former LAPD Chief, Daryl Gates, who faced a constant barrage of racism claims during his tenure. Mostly over his biased implementation of America’s “War on Drugs.”

The two top tier tennis players have been nemisises for over a decade.

The U.S. Open match on Monday marked the first game between the two tennis players in years.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) is an education program that seeks to prevent use of controlled drugs, membership in gangs, and violent behavior. It was founded in Los Angeles in 1983 as a joint initiative of then-LAPD chief Daryl Gates and the Los Angeles Unified School District as a demand-side drug control strategy of the American War on Drugs.

Gates faced allegations of arrogance and racism that plagued the department throughout his tenure, surfacing most strongly in the Christopher Commission report.
