QUEENS, NY. (THECOUNT) — Janice Matthews has been identified as the Queens, New York victim found dead “wrapped in a sheet” insider her apartment Thursday, according to reports.
Matthews, 66, was found wrapped in a sheet on a bed in the basement of the three-story home on 172nd Street in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens. Her throat was slashed.
On Thursday morning, police responded to the home on a welfare check after Matthews’ daughter was unable to contact her mother for several days.
at that time police found nothing unusual. Then later in the day police returned to the scene and located the body in the basement.
Police said that the murder “appears to be domestic related.”
A motive in the death was not provided. It is unclear if there were any signs of forced entry to the dwelling.
The investigation is ongoing.
Neighbors described Matthews at ‘joyous, amiable, and cordial,’ reports DailyMail.
