5 People Shot On Philly Street Thursday 1 Day After Shooting That Injured 6 Cops

PHILADELPHIA, PA. (THECOUNT) — A day after six Philadelphia police officers were shot during an drawn out standoff in Nicetown-Tioga, at least five people have been injured during a shooting in the city’s Ogontz neighborhood.

police responded to the 5800 block of North 15th Street Thursday afternoon after an unidentified gunman opened fire on a group of individuals who were located outside.

Police have not yet revealed the conditions of the five victims.

No arrests have been made and police have not released a description of any suspects, reports NBCphilly.

Maurice Hill, has been identified as the 36-year-old felon with an extensive criminal history for weapons offenses, accused of shooting six police officers in “an active firefight” in Philadelphia.

Police have not yet released the suspect’s name. The newspaper cited police sources for its report, and CBS Philadelphia also reported that the suspect in the more than 7-hour long standoff is Hill, attributing the information to his lawyer. Just after midnight, police announced: “Suspect is in custody. SWAT is still clearing the house,” reports Heavy on Wednesday night.

Multiple Philadelphia police officers were injured in a shooting Wednesday afternoon, local media outlets reported. Witness at the scene allege that more than a hundred rounds of gunfire went off before the police arrived at the scene. Two hours after the first reports of gunfire, shots were still heard being fired around 5:45 p.m. ET.

As of press time, six officers have been reportedly shot near the 3700 block of N. 15th street. Three have been taken to Einstein Medical, and three have been taken to Temple Hospital. None of the injuries are reported to be life-threatening. Two officers are still inside the home with the suspected shooters, Heavy is reporting Wednesday.

Sergeant Eric Gripp has asked the media to “stop broadcasting tactical positions of officers.”
