Equestrienne Lauren Kanarek Clinging To Life After Shot Twice By Olympian Michael Barisone On Upscale NJ Farm Wednesday

NEW JERSEY. (THECOUNT) — Lauren Kanarek, an award winning equestrienne, was shot at close range and critically injured while on a ritzy New Jersey farm Wednesday, according to reports.

Kanarek, 38, was identified by sources as national medalist shot by 2008 dressage Olympian and farm owner, Michael Barisone.

The attack left her clinging to life, according to NYPost.

The attack — said by sources to have been precipitated by a bitter landowner-tenant dispute — took place around 2:15 p.m. on the 53-acre Hawthorne Farm in rural Morris County, where the alleged shooter runs the Barisone Dressage training facility. “She’s very kind. She’s been working really hard in the sport,” Rosanna Williams, a friend of Kanarek’s told The Post. “As for what set this off, I can’t discuss it. The situation was very complex.”

Kanarek, who has won medals in national equestrian competitions, was initially said to be in grave condition, but has stabilized after surgery, said Williams.

Barisone, 54, was charged Thursday afternoon with two counts each of attempted murder and weapons possession for the attack, according to officials.
