Las Vegas, NV. (THECOUNT) — Area Henderson, NV, residents and visitors of the Las Vegas “Healing Garden,” an area constructed following the mass shootings of the Route 91 Harvest Festival, are complaining saying the area is now shabbily maintained and overrun by homeless squatters.
The once pristine quarter-acre garden, featuring lush vegetation surrounded by haunting keepsakes of the 59 victims of the 1 October mass shooting, is now overgrown and occupied by the homeless who routinely remove shrubbery in an effort to make themselves more comfortable and defecate on precious remembrance displays, considered sacred to many.
Local residents took to contacting local news outlets in an effort and get the message out there that the area was being neglected.
A landscaping firm contracted to care for the area, located on Saint Rose Parkway, in Henderson, NV, was not available for comment.
More than a thousand people offered time, money or materials. Volunteers built up a path that winds through the tupelo trees at a slight incline, because Pleggenkuhle wanted people to ascend above the city. They built a curl of wood paneling and hung dozens of brown paper tags for people to leave notes, reports USAToday at the time of the grand opening.
