‘Daughter Of TX Fire Chief’ Margarita ‘Magpie’ Brooks ID’d As Victim Killed By Arlington Police Firing At Dog

ARLINGTON, TX. (THECOUNT) — Margarita Victoria Brooks, the daughter of an Arlington Fire Department chief, has been identified as the victim killed in a police-involved shooting Thursday, according to reports.

The officer reportedly was shooting at a charging dog when Brooks was accidentally struck by gunfire.

“Magpie” Brooks, 30, was fatally shot by an Arlington police officer who was responding to welfare check request around 5:17 p.m. Thursday.

Brooks was reportedly passed out in the grass near Cantor Drive and North Collins Street.

An officer attempted to make contact with Brooks who witnesses say appeared to be lying in the grass, but there was also an unrestrained dog, officials said.

Police said as the officer tried calling out to Brooks, the dog started to charge at the officer, reports KAGSTV.

Investigators said at that point, the officer shot at the dog multiple times.

Brooks was struck by a bullet believed to be from the officer’s gun and later died, according to the department.

The fire department divulge the captain’s name.

According to social media, Brooks worked as a Visual artist painter.
