WASHINGTON COUNTY, OR. (THECOUNT) — Elizabeth Shell, of Hillsboro, has been identified as the victim killed in a vehicle collision just west of Banks, Oregon on Wednesday night.
Talita Weltzien, 19, also of Hillsboro, was arrested on several charges including driving under the influence of intoxicants and second-degree manslaughter.
According to reports, first responders arrived to the scene of a Banks vehicle crash on State Highway 6 around 8 p.m. near milepost 48, according to reports.
A subsequent investigation determined Weltzien was operating a Ford Fiesta when she made contact with a trailer attached to a commercial vehicle. The commercial vehicle was stopped in an active construction zone.
The collision caused the Fiesta to travel into opposing lanes and into a Ford Explorer.
Weltzien was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Shell was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
Weltzien was released from the hospital and booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of second-degree manslaughter, DUII, reckless driving, reckless endangering, reckless endangering of a highway worker, and second-degree criminal mischief, reports KPTV.
OSP said two other individuals received minor injuries in the crash.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Banks Fire Department, Metro West Ambulance, and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted OSP at the crash scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
