KIMPER, KY. (THECOUNT) — Gabrielle May McCoy, of Kemper, Kentucky, has been identified as the victim after she was apparently shot and killed by her sister Wednesday night in what officials are calling an accidental shooting.
The Pike County Coroner’s Office said McCoy, 16, died in her home after being shot by her 18-year-old sister.
Kentucky State Police said the sister was examining the gun when it accidentally discharged.
An autopsy is pending and police have not made any charges, according to WYMT.
McCoy was going to be a senior at Phelps High School this fall and was on the basketball team. The school is providing grief counselors Thursday for anyone who wishes to talk.
