SAN DIEGO, CA. (THECOUNT) — Andy Phonsongkham has been identified as the suspect arrested on suspicion of murder Thursday following a confrontation that left a 16-year-old boy dead in the San Diego community of Linda Vista, California.

Phonsongkham, 20, was taken into custody in connection with a shooting in Linda Vista that left Carlos Valdovinos dead in the 6500 block of Kelly Street just after 6 p.m. on Thursday.

According to San Diego police, Phonsongkham was inside a vehicle when be became involved in a confrontation with Valdovinos.

Police said at some point the confrontation escalated and the driver opened fire on Valdovinos and then fled the scene.

Valdovinos suffered at least one gunshot wound to his upper body, and he was taken to the hospital by his friends, according to 10News.

Valdovinos was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.

Investigators were able to identify Phonsongkham as the suspected shooter and arrested him on suspicion of murder later in the evening, officials said.

Details on the evidence that helped investigators identify the suspect were not provided.
