ATLANTIC BEACH, NC. (THECOUNT) — Austin Potter, of Havelock, North Carolina, has been identified as one of two individuals killed while swimming in the ocean at Atlantic Beach, North Carolina.
“Catfish” Potter, was named as the 20 something man who died along with an unidentified boy after being pulled out into the ocean near Oceanana Pier, on East Fort Macon Road, in Atlantic Beach after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Potter reportedly unsuccessfully attempted to assist the boy who he observed struggling in the water.
Firefighters concluded both swimmers got caught in a rip current and were unable to get back to shore safely.
Family and friends say Potter graduated from North Johnston High School in 2013. He loved to fish and had a heart of gold, reports ABC11.
