San Jose Woman Ashley Oliver ID’d As Suspect In Fremont DUI Crash That Killed Beloved Washington HS Student

FREMONT, CA. (THECOUNT) — Ashley Marie Oliver of San Jose, CA, has been identified as the suspect in a deadly DUI crash that killed popular Washington High School student, Armando Canales.

Canales, 16, was traveling in a vehicle with a group of friends around 2 a.m. on Highway 17 in Fremont Saturday when a vehicle operated by Oliver plowed into them.

Four other teens in the vehicle with Canales were injured and sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

CHP determined that Oliver’s minivan was traveling in the wrong direction when she struck the teens.

Oliver was arrested on tentative charges of felony drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter after she was released from the hospital, reports MercuryNews.

A GoFundMe has been set up for Canales and a vigil will take place at 6 p.m. Monday by the flagpole at Washington High School, 38442 Fremont Blvd., while a remembrance will happen 6 p.m. Tuesday at Shakers Pizza, 4075 Thornton Ave.

Via GoFundME:

On the early morning of May 11th, Armando was involved in an auto accident with a drunk driver. Unfortunately he did not survive.

Friends and family are devastated that one selfish act by an irresponsible adult has left a mother without a son on mother’s day weekend.

This go fund me was started by his friends at Washington High and their parents, to raise funds for his Mother Tina to bury her son.

Armando was a football player, a son, a brother, a friend, funny, caring, with a promising future. He will be missed by all.

Any donation big or small would be greatly appreciated.

Social media also saw people affected by the tragic collision share their grief.
