NEW YORK, NY. (THECOUNT) — Rapper Common has revealed in a new book that he was the victim of child abuse. The Oscar winning actor and philanthropist says that he is now on a mission to help other victims open up about their own abuse.
Common, 47, aka, Lonnie Corant Jaman Shuka Rashid Lynn, was caught exiting NBC studios in New York Tuesday when a TMZ reporter asked about his new memoir, ‘Let Love Have the Last Word.’ The entertainer then made the startling revelation about himself being molested as a child by someone he names as only, “Brandon.”
Common said he hopes the book will encourage others to feel safe talking about it too to possibly aid them in the healing process.
In his book, the Oscar-winner shares how a repressed memory of being molested by a family friend — whom he refers to as Brandon — surfaced a couple years ago while acting out a scene with Laura Dern in the 2018 film, “The Tale,” reports TMZ.
Common’s story details his personal journey as he works through the painful experience with the help of therapy and how he’s still dealing with it on a daily basis.
