DAVIDSON COUNTY, NC. (THECOUNT) — Davidson County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of their own after, deputy Matt Higgins lost his battle with cancer Tuesday.
Higgins, 35, was with the agency for seven years and was assigned as handler to K-9 Arya.
In a post on their Facebook page, the Sheriff’s Office said Higgins lost a valiant fight against his diagnosis on Tuesday.
In part the post says, “Matt passed away in the arms of his wife, Tracy, which is exactly where he wanted to be.”
According to a GoFundMe page shared by the Sheriff’s Office, Higgins had a rare form of bladder cancer.

The Sheriff’s Office said Higgins “leaves a void that cannot be filled” and their “memories will never fade,” reports WXII.
