Poplin was pronounced dead on the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

A third vehicle was unable to avoid the crash, police say, and also crashed into Poplin’s van, reports WCCBCharlotte.

The driver of the Ford van was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The driver and passenger of the third vehicle were transported with minor injuries to area hospitals.

CMPD says speed and impairment on the part of Poplin are suspected factors at this time. Poplin was also not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police say.
