NC Woman Karolyn Chambers ID’d As Victim Following Thursday High Point Pursuit Crash

HIGH POINT, NC. (THECOUNT) — Karolyn Chambers has been identified as the victim killed at the conclusion of a high speed police pursuit crash in High Point Thursday.

Chambers, 43, died Thursday night in a head-on crash caused by a driver who was being pursued by police after being suspected of driving while impaired.

High Point police said Chambers was operating a vehicle when she was struck by a Chevy Impala driven by DUI suspect, Anthony Tate.

Investigators said an officer observed a Chevrolet Impala cross centerlines while traveling in the 100 block of Gordon Street, in High Point, NC.

The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop when the suspect fled the scene.

Police said the driver ran a red light and reached speeds of 90 miles per hour during a pursuit.

Tate struck Chambers’ vehicle head-on at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and North Hamilton Street, reports WXII.

Police said Tate and a passenger in his car were both taken to the hospital. The passenger is in critical condition.

Tate is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder, felony death by motor vehicle, felony serious injury by motor vehicle, driving while license revoked, driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving and aggravated felony speed to elude arrest.

Chambers leaves behind three children and a significant other.
