Abandon Coachella ‘Runt’ Puppy Dies As Petition Demands #JusticeForPuppies

COACHELLA, CA. (THECOUNT) — In a sad update, one of the 7 puppies dumped in a trash bin by Coachella woman, Deborah Sue Culwell, has died.

The Riverside County Animal Services said the puppy died Wednesday after it couldn’t recover from last week’s traumatic experience. It was also noted the pup may have been the unlucky ones to be placed at the bottom corner of the plastic bag.

The Animal Services said, “The little one might have been on the bottom of the bag when the woman dumped the puppies into a trash bin.” A volunteer taking care of the puppies wrote on Facebook, “He was just so weak and held on for as long as he could,” reports TMZ

The volunteer went on to say … “When I got him he was pale and kind of flat looking, so I think he was the cushion that saved his siblings. As the lady threw them in the bag, i think he was at the bottom and took the hit when all of his siblings landed on him.”

Culwell was been identified as the woman caught on video tossing a bag of newborn puppies near a dumpster in Coachella, California, last week. She was arrested on Monday.

Police arrested Culwell, 54, outside her Coachella home, according to Riverside County Animal Services spokesperson John Welsh.

A petition has been started to get justice for the abandon animals:

Culwell could face up to seven counts of felony animal cruelty, Welsh said.

Culwell was seen in the video leaving the seven newborn puppies in a plastic bag near a dumpster behind a NAPA Auto Parts store on Thursday afternoon, according to Riverside County Animal Services.

The puppies survived and are being lovingly cared for by officials. The animals will require being bottle fed for some time if they are expected to survive.

Commander Chris Mayer with animal services said he was building an animal cruelty case against the woman with the help of the Riverside County Sheriff’s office and the District Attorney’s office, reports WGNTV.

Culwell is currently being housed at the Indio jail.
