WALTERBORO, SC. (THECOUNT) — South Carolina fifth-grader Raniya Wright, the student who died last month after reportedly being involved in a brief slap fight at her elementary school, died of natural causes, and not as a result of any on-campus altercation, prosecutor Duffie Stone said Friday.
“There was no evidence of trauma on or inside her body … that would indicate that any fight (of) any magnitude contributed to her death,” Stone, the area solicitor, said at a news conference. “There will be no criminal charges brought,” he said.
Wright reportedly had a birth defect causing her veins and arteries to be tangled, reports MyFox8.
The girl had suffered “headaches for weeks,” leading up to the fatal incident.
She was unconscious when paramedics arrived at the school and transported her to a nearby hospital, according to a sheriff’s department report.
Her death was ultimately caused by pressure and a rupture of a vein in her brain.
The fight, which authorities previously reported preceded the girl’s death, was revealed to have been a slap fight that was stopped in a matter of seconds.

This is a travesty!!! This poor little girl took a "grown man" ass whipping in a school fight. She ends up in the hospital swollen with tubes out the whazoo, and on life support and the crooked medical examiner calls it natural causes. All of a sudden, on this particular day, her veins and arteries decide to become twisted. DO NOT CLOSE THIS CASE!!!! This is so wrong on so many levels. EXHUME her body and have someone who knows what they are doing perform another autopsy. JUSTICE FOR RINIYA.
Even if the little girl had a preexisting condition is that any reason to dismiss violence in the classroom? And what medical care was she receiving for her constant headaches and where are those records? Should she have even been in school? I agree Scream, think they better do a deeper dive into this tragic case to insure justice is done.
