LOS ANGELES, CA. (THECOUNT) — Actress Lori Loughlin and her fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, have been hit with a new charge in the sweeping college admissions bribery case.
Loughlin and Giannulli were among 16 prominent parents indicted Tuesday on a charge of money laundering conspiracy, reports Fox5DC.
Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli, were facing about a 24 month prison sentence as part of the plea deal offered by prosecutors that they rejected.
Fellow actress, Felicity Huffman, recently plead guilty to similar charges and is expected to be offered less time behind bars. Her plea would allow her to serve as little as 4 months in prison. But because Loughlin and her husband paid a whopping $500K in bribes to get their daughter into USC, she is facing significantly more time in the slammer.
TMZ reported Monday night that all of the parents caught up in the college cheating scandal have been offered plea deals, but prosecutors will only accept pleas with prison time attached.
Felicity copped a plea Monday, along with 12 other parents. The remaining 37 individuals charged — including Lori and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli — have been offered plea deals, with varying recommendations for prison sentences, largely determined by the amount they paid in bribes and whether they accept responsibility for what they did, reports TMZ.
Sources say prosecutors have presented all defendants an ultimatum to reach a plea deal STAT or a Federal Grand Jury will add charges, including money laundering, which significantly raises the low end of prison time.
