KY Mystery After 6 Louisville Llamas Found KIlled Overnight By Unknown ‘Large Animal’

LOUISVILLE, KY. (THECOUNT) — First off, Llamas are very good at defending themselves, and one of the animals killed, weighed 500 pounds.

Authorities say they believe another “large animal” attacked and killed six llamas at Louisville Llama, a farm in Kentucky overnight Monday.

Farm owner Caroline Willette tells the Courier Journal she awoke Monday morning to blood and tufts of wool spread around her property. Five llamas were found dead with bite marks behind their ears and by their flanks, while a sixth was put down because of injuries, reported WHNT.

At least two other llamas were injured. The attack caused at least $10,000 in damage, said the farm owner.

Officials say coyotes were likely not responsible for the killings, as llamas are good at defending themselves and one of the animals killed weighed a stealth 227 kilograms.

The farm is located behind the Louisville Zoo, but zoo officials say they’re unfamiliar with the attack.

In September of 2018, in Monroe County, Kentucky, three horses were found attacked and killed along with two of the property owner’s dogs.

In 2018, the attacked horses were found in the Bill Butler Spur area and at that time, officials also said they believed they were killed by a “large animal.”

Larger than a horse?
