ABINGDON, VA. (THECOUNT) — Travis L. Toney, of Coeburn, Virginia, has been identified as the pedestrian struck and killed Tuesday evening while walking on Lee Highway.
Toney, 38 was on foot in the area of 18000 Lee Highway, in Abingdon, Rockingham County, VA, when he was struck by a passing SUV around 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, a 2015 GMC Yukon was traveling north in the 18,000 block of Lee Highway. The vehicle hit a Toney walking along the white line of the right northbound travel lanes, according to police. source
A death report noted the victim was dressed in dark clothing at the time he was struck.
He was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries consistent with the collision.
A 38-year-old Abingdon resident was driving the Yukon and was not injured.
The deadly incident remains under investigation.
