LEBANON COUNTY, PA. (THECOUNT) — Mitchell Hammer, of Palmyra, Pennsylvania, has been identified as the man killed in a police-involved shooting Tuesday morning in Lebanon County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Hammer, 27, was killed around 10:30 a.m. at the conclusion of a foot chase after police arrived to his place of work to serve a warrant. The suspect fled the scene on foot and a foot chase ensued.
The chase ended in a confrontation causing police to open fire fatally wounding the suspect in the area of Lindley Murray Road, Annville, PA, according to authorities.
Hammer was transported via helicopter to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries consistent with the incident.
Police say troopers carried Hammer uphill through the woods to a State Police helicopter, which was assisting in the search. source
No troopers were injured during the incident, police said in a report.
The involved officers were placed on leave pending the conclusion of a death investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
