SCOTT COUNTY, IN. (THECOUNT) — Officer Benton Bertram, has been identified as the nine-year veteran of the Charlestown Police Department killed during a pursuit involving a suspect vehicle in Clark County, Indiana Wednesday.
Bertram, 33, died in a crash during a pursuit that began in Charlestown, Indiana on Wednesday.
The officer attempted to stop a Toyota Corolla for a traffic violation driven by 23-year-old Freedom, Indiana man, Benjamin Eads, when the deadly crash occurred.
The suspect vehicle fled north on State Road 3 and continued on to State Road 56, in Scott County.
Clark County Central Dispatch notified the Indiana State Police in Sellersburg, Dec.12 around 10:20 p.m., of a pursuit involving a suspect vehicle and the Charlestown City Police Department in Clark County, Indiana. This pursuit continued into Scott County and resulted in a crash, claiming the life of Officer Benton Bertram of the Charlestown City Police Department. source
