TAYLORS, SC. (THECOUNT) — Joshua Daniel Burgess, of Greenville, has been identified as the Wade Hampton High School senior killed in a crash involving the driver of a stolen vehicle.

Burgess, 17, was driving a Toyota Corolla when he was struck by a Honda Accord that had been reported stolen earlier Wednesday evening, the coroner said.

Police said two others from the Corolla were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.

The driver of the Honda Accord was also hospitalized with serious injuries.

Burgess was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries consistent with the collision.

“The Greer Police Department’s Traffic Team and the detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division are continuing their investigation into this incident and upon the conclusion of the investigation appropriate charges will be made,” Fortenberry said in a news release Thursday. source

Greenville County Schools confirmed Thursday that Burgess was a football player at Wade Hampton High School, located at 100 Pine Knoll Dr, in Greenville, SC.

He also participated in the school’s Project Lead the Way Engineering program.

No other information was immediately provided by officials.

Taylors is a census-designated place in Greenville County, United States. The population was 21,617 at the 2010 census. Taylors is the Greenville/Spartanburg area’s largest suburb although it is not incorporated as a city.
