IN HS School Star Athlete Selected IFCA All State Football Team This Week Killed In Saturday Greenwood Crash

GREENWOOD, IN. (THECOUNT) — Rashawn Haskins has been identified as the Southport High School student killed in a head-on crash in Greenwood, Indiana, Saturday night.

Haskins, 18, was traveling as a passenger in a vehicle on West Main Street and U.S. 31 in Greenwood when the fatal crash occurred Saturday night.

Haskins’ sister, who was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash was sent into surgery Sunday evening, and is expected to survive.

Investigators say three young people were in a sedan just after 10 p.m. Saturday, when it turned into the path of a northbound Jeep, which had the green light. Greenwood Police say a 17-year-old girl was driving the sedan. Haskins was in the passenger seat and his sister was in the back seat. Police say Haskins was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. source

The driver of the Jeep was 18 years old and police did not release whether that teenager was injured in the crash.

Those who survived were given a blood draw and the accident remains under investigation.

Rashawn Haskins was a popular and accomplished football player and star athlete at Southport High School.

He’d also previously on the high school’s basketball team. On social media Sunday, the teams, coaches and students expressed shock and sadness at Haskins’ loss. He’d just been named to the IFCA All State Team in football this weekend.

Greenwood is a city in Johnson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 49,791 at the 2010 Census, and increased to 56,545 in the Census 2016 estimates. Greenwood is located between Indiana State Road 37 and Interstate 65, according to Wikipedia.
