HAMBURG, PA. (THECOUNT) — New Jersey woman, Kathryn Schurtz, and her fiance, Joseph Kearny, were identified as the couple killed in a fiery Pittsburgh crash while traveling to attend their own wedding.

The couple was in a vehicle on I-78, in Hamburg, PA, Wednesday when they encountered slower moving traffic. Authorities say that’s when they were rear-ended by a tractor-trailer who failed to slow down.

The couple’s vehicle was pushed and sandwiched between another 18-wheeler. All three vehicles burst in flames.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Schurtz, 35, lived in Jersey City, New Jersey, and was head of platform partnerships for Oracle Data Cloud in New York City. She is daughter to former Fanwood Councilwoman Karen Schurtz.

Schurtz obituary noted Schurtz “will be remembered for her voracious appetite for reading, love of cooking, and trailblazing new adventures with Joseph.”

No information was made available for Kearny.
