HARTLEY COUNTY, TX (THECOUNT) — Luis Orrantia, of Dalhart, TX, has been identified as the victim in a fatal Sunday on US-54 in Hartley County.
Officials say at 5:20 a.m., Orrantia, 33, exited the roadway and drove into oncoming traffic on US 54 2- miles southwest of Dalhart for an unknown reason.
Orrantia’s pickup truck hit an 18-wheeler head-on.
Orrantia was pronounced dead on scene by Dallam County Justice of the Peace, Carol Smith. Orrantia was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to the Coon County Memorial hospital in Dalhart with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was wearing a seat belt. source
The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved.
The crash remains under investigation.
