YORK COUNTY, PA. (THECOUNT) — Ronald Orendi of Mechanicsburg, Pa, has been identified as the victim killed following a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning on I-83 NB near mile marker 34 in York County.
Orendi, 63, was operating a cargo van on I-83 Thursday when his vehicle was rear-ended by a big-rig that failed to yield to slower traffic.
A preliminary investigation determined that a semi trailer carrying a full-size trailer came to a stop due to traffic, Police say. The cargo van also stopped behind that vehicle.
According to police, a semi-truck then failed to stop and struck the rear of the cargo van, sandwiching it between the 18-wheelers.
Orendi was entrapped in his vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the count coroner.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown. source
