DELAWARE COUNTY, OH. (THECOUNT) — John D. Schmittauer, of Columbus, OH, has been identified as the victim in a fatal South Old State Road, Lewis Center crash on Thursday.
“Johnny” Schmittauer, 23, was operating a 2009 Honda Civic northbound on S Old State Road, in Lewis Center, OH, at around 11:15 p.m., Thursday, when for unknown reasons, exited the roadway, struck a mailbox and flipped over into a ditch, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers.
Schmittauer was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries consistent with the crash.
According to troopers, at about 11:15pm, Thursday, John D. Schmittauer, 23, of Lewis Center. Schmittauer was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital where he later died from his injuries. source
Troopers say Schmittauer was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Alcohol may have played a factor in the deadly crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
