HARRISBURG, PA. (THECOUNT) — Edward Satterfield III, of McComb, MS, has been identified as the truck driver accused of causing an 11-vehicle pileup on I-83 in Harrisburg, PA, Friday night.
Satterfield, 29, was operating a semi-truck when police say he caused a triple-fatal wreck on Interstate 83 Friday while driving under the influence. The crash also sent six individuals to the hospital with unknown injuries.
State police identified the victims killed in the crash as 24-year-old Zachary Lybrand, of Middletown, and 22-year-old Ethan VanBochoven, of Pompton Plains, NJ.
Sadly, one of the fatalities was an 18-month-old girl, according to officials working the scene. The child was not named because of her age.
The crash, which involved 11 vehicles, happened in the northbound lanes near the Union Deposit Road exit in Lower Paxton Township at 8:30 p.m. That section of road is approaching a construction zone. PennDOT is in the midst of a multiyear project to widen Interstate 83 to three lanes in both directions from Interstate 81 to the area south of Union Deposit Road. source
The three killed were pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries consistent with the violent collision.
The extent of the injuries or the current conditions of the six victims transported to area hospitals was not provided.
The investigation of the crash is ongoing.
