LSU Basketball Rising Star ‘Wayde Sims’ Shot Dead Friday Near Southern University

BATON ROUGE, LA. (THECOUNT) — LSU basketball star player, Wayde Sims, has been killed in an early morning shooting Friday.

Sims, 20, was shot dead in a Friday shooting near Southern University, according to Baton Rouge police.

Detectives were called to the scene of a homicide that occurred near 600 Harding Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA, around 12:25 a.m.

Upon arrival, Sims was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of injuries consistent with gunfire.

Police said Sims, a junior attending LSU with a forward position on the team, was transported to a local hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. Police said Sims died due to the injury. source

In his sophomore season, Sims played 32 games with 10 starts, and was the 2014-2015 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year.
