WYOMISSING, PA. (THECOUNT) — Numerous Wyomissing-area residents were awakened overnight by a pair of small earthquakes accompanied by loud booms between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Berks County 9-1-1 officials said they received several calls from concerned residents saying they heard loud booms after being awakened by a shaking motion.

This morning’s reports are the latest in a series of loud booms and house-shaking vibrations experienced by borough residents, although previous reports centered on the Wyomissing Hills section.

According to the the U.S. Geological Survey website, a 1.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 3:39 a.m. today near Shillington. A 1.7-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 5:48 a.m. near Nolde Forest in Cumru Township. source

So many residents called authorities, police encouraged residents to post incidents of loud booms or shaking on the Facebook page rather than call the department.

Many of those who posted this morning said they live in the old Wyomissing section, including Cleveland Avenue near the Wyomissing Junior-Senior High School.
