NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE, (THECOUNT) — Rene Melendez Jr., has been identified as the victim in a crash over the Labor Day weekend, according to authorities.
Melendez, 36, was killed following a fatal crash near a New Jersey highway toll plaza near Interchange 14, police said.
Rene Melendez Jr., of Manalapan was driving a Ford van at 4:39 p.m. when passed through the Interchange 14 toll plaza at the New Jersey Turnpike and crashed soon afterward, police said.
Melendez struck a guardrail between the Interstate 78 local and express lanes, police said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:13 p.m., police said.
