LAS VEGAS, NV. (THECOUNT) Police have identified 20-year-old Cassie Smith and Joshua Oxford, 40, as the suspects in the killing of Daniel Theriot, the toddler who was found dead in Las Vegas on Sunday.
Las Vegas Metro Police say the boy’s mother, Smith, was involved in the killing with her boyfriend, 40-year-old Oxford. The couple was taken in custody Monday and will “likely” be charged in the death.
Smith reported 3-year-old Daniel Theriot missing on Sunday morning. She told police he had gone missing at the park, but officers said her story didn’t check out. The boy was found Monday near Lake Mead. Police also said Smith’s other son, a 2-year-old, showed signs of child abuse and was taken into the custody of the department of child services. source
Smith and Oxford face one count of child abuse related to the younger sibling, but will likely be charged with murder.
Anyone with information on the death is asked to contact Las Vegas Metro Police at 911.
