SCHOOLCRAFT TOWNSHIP, MI. (THECOUNT) — The family of Matthew Colvin, the Wyoming teen killed Wednesday in a crash on US-131, set up a GoFundMe page to help pay with the lad’s funeral expenses.
Portage Police have identified the 15-year-old as the single fatality in a crash that occurred at 9:20 a.m. northbound on US-131 between U Avenue and Centre Avenue.
Colvin was one of five juvenile passengers in a Mazda 6 that was struck from behind by a pick-up truck. Colvin died in the crash of blunt force trauma. The four other children in the car with Colvin suffered non-life threatening injuries in the collision and are expected to fully recover.
Police said Wednesday that the Mazda, driven by a 48-year-old Elkhart, Ind. man, was traveling at a slow speed and may have been having mechanical problems. source
Both drivers involved in the crash, one of which is Colvin’s father, were transported to area hospitals and are listed in stable condition.
