BRADLEY, ME. (THECOUNT) — Eugene Hill, of Brewer, ME., has been identified by the Maine Warden Service as the man who drowned Monday night at Chemo Pond in Bradley.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday night in Bradley. Arriving Emergency responders set up command in nearby Eddington by Dean’s Landing on reports of a man in the water.
Hill, 54, had been boating on Chemo Pond with two friends around 7:30 p.m. Monday night when one of those friends fell into the water. Hill went into the water to help and did not resurface, the Maine Warden Service said in a public release.
The friend was able to grab the ladder of the boat, but wind blew the ladder out of reach of Hill, according to the Maine Warden Service. The other two people from the boat called 911 and attempted to get Hill back on board, but he slipped beneath the surface. Hill’s two friends were able to make it to safely to shore and are expected to fully recover. source
Several other residents from around Chemo Pond reportedly tried save Hill, but were unsuccessful.
The Maine Warden Service noted, although there were numerous life jackets on board, none were being worn at the time of the fatal incident.
