SMITH COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Dallas native, Anthony Watkins, has been identified as the Texas man killed when his big rig traveled up the shoulder and struck an overpass while traveling on I-20.
Watkins, 59, was heading east on I-20 when the 18-wheeler he was operating crashed into the Toll 49 bridge over Interstate 20 in Smith County.
TxDOT said that crews inspecting the bridge discovered Watkins’ truck struck the overpass with such force, it shifted the south end about three inches.
The Lindale Police Department confirmed that 59-year-old Dallas native Anthony Watkins was the driver of the 18-wheeler that crashed on I-20 and Toll 49 Monday morning. source
Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the cause of the crash will not be determined until after the autopsy.
