MASSILLON, OH. (THECOUNT) — Massillon man, Chauncy Townes, has been identified as the victim in a fatal motorcycle crash, Saturday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports.
Townes, 29, was traveling eastbound on his white 2007 Suzuki on Hills and Dales Road around 9:53 p.m. when he came into contact with a silver 2013 Chevy Cruze traveling westbound.
26-year-old Rebekah Owen was later named as the driver of the Chevy Cruze.
Owen was making a left turn into an apartment complex when she failed to yield for Mr. Townes. Mr. Townes was ejected from his motorcycle as it overturned and stuck the right side of Ms. Owen’s vehicle. source
Police noted in an accident report that Townes was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
He was transported to Mercy Hospital, with life threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.
The accident remain under investigation.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash but police did not elborate.
