KANAWHA COUNTY, WV. (THECOUNT) — Cody A. McCallister, of West Virginia, has been identified as the teen who drowned in the Elk River in Clendenin, WV, while swimming with a group of friends Thursday.
Kanawha County deputies say, the body of McCallister, 17, was recovered Thursday from the river, according to a Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office press release.
A body was pulled from a waterway, located at 1163 River Haven Road, Clendenin, WV, around 11:20 p.m. after authorities responded to a 7:30 p.m. call about a male in the Elk River requesting help.
Prior to arriving at the scene, emergency responders were notified that one male had went under water and efforts were being made to rescue him. This male was identified as McCallister, who was from the Elkview area. source
Fire department personnel recovered McCallister’s body from the river. The West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted and responded to the scene.
