KNOXVILLE, TN. (THECOUNT) — Brendon Layne, of Knoxville, TN, has been identified as the man found dead on a Western Heights street Monday night.
Layne, 28, was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the street in front of 1502 Fort Promise Drive in Western Heights, according to a Knoxville Police Department news release.
Layne was in possession of unspecified illegal drugs and a firearm, the release states. Witnesses described the shooting suspect as a black male with dreads.
Layne was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said a suspect in the shooting was taken in custody and booked on unrelated charges. William Anthony Young Jr., was later released.
The investigation into the homicide is ongoing.
