SUGAR CREEK TWP, OH. (THECOUNT) — Beach City woman, Marissa M. Winland, has been identified as the woman killed Thursday in a State Route 93 motorcycle crash south of Brewster, Ohio.
Norman Winland, 49, was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling near Brewster Thursday when the crash occurred. Marissa, 36, was riding as his passenger.
Officials say the couple struck a deer that had crossed their path.
Marissa was thrown from the vehicle and suffered a severe head injury in the wreck and was transported to Aultman Hospital where she was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.
The condition of the deer was not immediately known.
Norman suffered minor injuries, according to a report.
Beach City residents Norman S. Winland, 49, and Marissa M. Winland, 36, were riding the white Harley Davidson XL833 south on State Route 93 when Norman Winland hit a deer that entered the road about a half mile south of Brewster, according to a news release from Lt. Leo Shirkey of the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Canton post. The motorcycle overturned, ejecting both the Winlands. source
The couple were not wearing safety helmets at the time of the fatal crash, officials noted.
Alcohol and drugs were not a considered a factor in the wreck, according to an accident report.
The crash remained under investigation on Friday.
