Chicago Fire Department officials are saying a 17-year-old Chicago man shot several times in the head was mistaken for dead and covered with a sheet for 20 hours early Monday.
Horrified bystanders noticed the “dead” teen, Erin Carey, moving under the sheet and alerted paramedics on the scene. The teen, who was suffering from gunshot wounds to the head, was covered by a sheet by arriving EMS personnel.
“He ain’t dead,” a woman cried.
Paramedics eventually administered CPR to the boy, who was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The Chicago Tribune reports the boy, identified as Carey, died more than 20 hours after he was shot.
Police say a woman whose name hasn’t been released was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said none of the surviving shooting victims are cooperating with investigators.
