Veronica Duffy has been named by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as the 48-year-old Bronson woman who drowned in Lake Sam Rayburn Saturday afternoon.
TP&W said in a report Monday morning that Duffy drowned in Sam Rayburn. Yesterday, officials had declined to release the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
According to a previous East Texas News story, Duffy and another person had been swimming in Lake Sam Rayburn at Highway 83 and San Augustine Park with another person in a boat nearby when the woman who was later identified as Duffy “went under.” source
Another person tried to rescue her, but he suffered cramps and was unable to do so, officials said.
The drowning incident occurred at about 1 p.m. Saturday. Duffy’s body was recovered at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
An autopsy has been ordered in the case and a death investigation is ongoing.
