Wisconsin couple, Jake Hellenbrand and Olivia Boomsma, have been arrested and charged with battery to a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest, according to police.
Portage police were attempting to take Jacob “Jake” Hellenbrand, 21, in custody outside of a convenience store on Sunday on a parole violation when Boomsma, also 21, “viciously attacked” the arresting officers, authorities said.
Officer Brian Lowenhagen and Sgt. Eric Walters were attempting to arrest Hellenbrand when the “male was able to blade his body toward Sgt. Walters and forcefully kick Sgt. Walters on the right side of his face and head,” according to the police department. source
An off-duty medical assistant who witnessed the attack intervened by body-slamming Boomsma against a wall and “held her there until Sgt. Walters resumed consciousness and was able to handcuff the female,”
Boomsma reportedly kicked one of the officers with such force he was rendered unconsciousness.
Sgt. Walters resumed consciousness thanks to the medical assistant’s restraint of the suspect and was able to successfully handcuff the female.
Hellenbrand and Boomsma are both facing felony charges for battery to a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest, according to the police department.
The condition of the officers was not released.
