Sad news breaking for Gamecocks women’s basketball player Alaina Coates and her family after their father, Gary Coates, tragically passed away in Blythewood on Tuesday. He was 55.
Coates, of Irmo, suffered from cardiac arrest while driving along Links Crossing Drive in Blythewood, SC.
An accident report said Coats’ vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
EMS noted they observed no trauma to the body as a result of the accident.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has ruled Coates’s death natural.
