36-year-veteran of the San Bernardino County sheriff’s office, Deputy Lawrence “Larry” Falce, has died after being “violently attacked” following a traffic collision on New Year’s Eve, authorities said.
Falce, 70, succumbed to his injuries Tuesday night, according to a statement.
Falce was driving his vehicle when he was involved in a minor crash on Kendall Drive and University Parkway in San Bernardino about 10:50 a.m. Sunday, police said. After the crash, both drivers stopped and made contact. The other driver then hit the deputy, severely injuring him. Authorities later located the suspect and took him into custody, according to a San Bernardino Police Department news release.
A spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department confirmed to KTLA that Falce was taken off life support shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday. The department issued a statement a short time after, announcing the deputy’s death.
“The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is mourning the death of one of their own tonight. Moments ago, Deputy Lawrence ‘Larry’ Falce succumbed to injuries he sustained from the violent attack on Sunday, December 31, 2017,” the statement read.
Falce is being remembered “as an honorable man,” and a “lifelong public servant who cared deeply about this profession,” according to the statement.
Our thoughts and prayer go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.

Again the suspect is not named (like in the case of the killer of the CHP officer)...in this case because of the ongoing investigation? Really? Just what are they trying to hide? I think we all know.
He was named and arrested. $1m bond... possibly they didn't name him so he didn't disappear into mexico before they could get an arrest warrant?
Sad day for a man who dedicated his life to protecting others from violence and crime. He, however, was OFF duty, a private citizen when attacked... those who are authorizing this vast, unnecessary expenditure of tax dollars and public Resources to accompany/honor a dead body to the morgue, should be summarily relieved of duties. The affection and respect by his colleagues, coworkers, and other fire/police/sheriff depts. --while inspiring--should be occurring on their private time using their private resources. Once again, CA has shown the lack of financial responsibility, yet just begged for 'needed' federal Funds due to wild fire damage ... could have been avoided or at least mitigated had CA been responsible fiduciary of citizens tax dollars rather than spending the BILLIONS of $$$ on illegal alien freebies.
Your lack of empathy is noted. So is your callousness. To be so cold in your heart must be painful. CA wastes money on illegals and druggies and you clamor on about showing respect to a man that deserves every bit of ours? What a malignant mind you must have.
Has nothing to do with empathy ... is about CA lack of financial responsibility with money, resources and human assets that are taken from the public for public services, not private grieving ...that were supposed to be on duty and protecting the public... the equipment was supposed to be used on duty.. the man who happened to be an off duty deputy, assuredly will be honored and respected at his memorial services. If the body needed accompanying, 1 officer was sufficient at taxpayer expense. I also identified the waste on illegal aliens... two wrongs financially do not make a right... we had the same issue in our county for a beloved 20 yr officer -- the sheriff allowed similar acts, even tried to claim he was on duty when clearly he was not...until the responsible taxpayers who lived this guy, called the sheriff to task, that sorrow and grief, and great loss personally do NOT allow taxpayer dollars to be misappropriated. There are plenty of ways to honor this good man, just as our citizens did, publicly --with private, donated funds.
You're so full of bull, they make sure all resources are available to cover the situations as they arise. Again, your lack of empathy is well noted. This is part and parcel of the process and if you don't like it tough, the rest of us want to show our appreciation to those willing to lay down their lives to save ours and those of our loved ones.
Really? Then why is CA begging for and receiving federal filings for flood, and now wildfire, damage when just the $1B paid fir illegal alien healthcare would have paid for the proper field/brush mitigation so the wildfires couldn't take hold? And paying for the rest of the illegal aliens' freebies instead of fixing the northern dam that caused evacuations during that heavy rain? Waste & abuse if tax dollars at the expense of tax paying citizens ...over and over again .
As far as the tax payers paying for his service they can take it out of the social security he will never be able to collect or his pension that he paid for by protecting us for 36 years with the sheriffs Department and all the years he served in the army. In other words. Your welcome. He was a hero and maybe you rest easy deputy falce! Thank you for all you have done
Again, all for the accolades & respect...citizens owe him immeasurably. But the tax dollars still should be fiscally responsible...
