ONLY ON THECOUNT.COM: Brian Murphy, Deputy Superintendent at Toledo Public Schools, was arrested late Thursday night in Bowling Green on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Murphy’s arrest comes just months after the TPS leader chastised three fellow TPS employees who were accused of drinking alcohol while on school premises after hours. At that time, Murphy, who was tasked with investigating the employees, said he was, “very disappointed in the situation.”
“We are very disappointed in the situation and what happened. We are handling the situation, we are disciplining them, we are referring them to get intervention and support,” Murphy said in August.
Thursday, Murphy was himself charged with drinking and driving under the influence. Officers say he refused drug screening during the DUI traffic stop.
Although Murphy refused testing at the scene, officials said drugs are not believed to be a factor in the incident.
In August 2017, Custodians James Roper and Michelle Stalker were placed on unpaid administrative leave for 5 days after being caught with another employee drinking alcohol after hours at Waite High school. The unnamed TPS employee involved was forced to retire over the incident.
“I do believe that these three employees are very apologetic and they wish they could take their actions back, they want to move forward in supporting the mission of Toledo Public Schools,” Murphy said at the time. source
And that’s not all! The after hours drinking suspensions occurred on the heels of the suspensions of TPS administrators, Jennifer Lawless, and Robert Mendenhall, who were both accused of violating sexual harassment policy while training in Florida.
But wait, there’s more! Another top administrator, John Krajeski was also placed on unpaid administrative leave last summer for unknown reasons.
